Discover your Stress Profile for Neurodivergent Adults - Take the Quiz
Welcome to a transformative journey toward fostering an inclusive and resilient workplace environment. We're excited to invite line #managers and #leaders to an insightful 30 minute lunch and learn workshop on Managing Autistic/ADHD Burnout at Work, hosted by the dynamic duo, Carole Jean Whittington of Mind Your Autistic Brain and Oliver Fenghour from Advance: The Disability Consultants.
Discovering the Burnout Reality
On the 17th and 18th of August, we're diving deep into the world of burnout – a phenomenon that's affecting our global workforce including ADHD and Autistic employees, as well as their managers and leaders who may also be neurodistinct. We'll start our session by posing a thought-provoking question: What does burnout look like for managers and leaders? The answers might surprise you.
According to Spill, a mental health charity in the UK, burnout costs organizations a staggering £700 million each year in lost working days. Stress and exhaustion are the main culprits behind this concerning trend. But fear not, because knowledge is power, and understanding the dynamics of burnout is the first step toward creating positive change.
Prioritizing Physical and Mental Wellbeing
In the fast-paced world of today, physical and mental wellbeing are crucial for all employees, especially Neurodivergent individuals. Shockingly, 48% of Neurodivergent employees in the UK admit to feeling burned out at work. This alarming statistic sheds light on the urgent need for strategies that prioritize the wellbeing of these team members.
Did you know that 75% of Neurodivergent employees also report a lack of financial security and emotional wellbeing at work? These figures, revealed by HR Review magazine, emphasize the importance of nurturing an environment where everyone can thrive.
Revamping Inclusion and Diversity Strategies
Inclusivity and diversity are not mere buzzwords – they're vital components of a successful organization. Unfortunately, only two in five companies have effective inclusion and diversity strategies in place to support Neurodivergent employees in the workplace, according to a survey by Willis Towers Watson. Our workshop will explore ways to revamp these strategies and foster a culture of true belonging.
Empowering Managers to Combat Burnout
Spotting early signs of burnout in Neurodivergent employees is a skill every manager should possess. By taking proactive measures, we can prevent burnout from taking hold. The session will provide actionable insights into managing burnout triggers and fostering a supportive work environment.
Empowering HR's Role in Neurodivergent Support
The role of HR is pivotal in addressing burnout in Neurodivergent employees. Our workshop will delve deep into this role, shedding light on how HR can evolve to identify and support these invaluable team members effectively.
Igniting Change Together
As the workshop wraps up, we'll ask each participant a critical question: What's one change you'd like to see in your organization's approach to managing and supporting Neurodivergent employees before burnout becomes a significant challenge?
Confronting the Burnout Crisis
In the United States, burnout has reached alarming levels. An astounding 89% of workers experienced some degree of burnout in the last year, and a staggering 77% are currently grappling with burnout in their current jobs. A recent Zappier article highlights that unsupported workers are 70% more likely to experience burnout, leading to a shocking 40% quitting their jobs due to burnout. It's no wonder that burnout is now the number one reason employees cite for leaving their jobs. The financial toll on companies is enormous, exceeding $300 billion in lost work days, performance, engagement, and accidents, coupled with an additional $190 million in healthcare costs.
Why This Matters
The burnout rate has escalated by an additional 13.5% since 2021, reaching an astonishing 59%. Recognizing burnout in yourself and your team from all neurotype perspectives is more critical today than ever before.
Empowering Managers with Practical Strategies
During the session, Carole Jean Whittington will share step-by-step strategies on how to support burned-out team members without falling into the burnout trap yourself as their manager.

No one seems to ‘get it’. Friends and family think you just need to push through or "self-care" more. Internally, so many people in late identified life (me included) feel broken, ashamed or like they are failing or have never reached their full potential, when all along they've had a brain and sensory system that is different from the masses. It can take a lot of strength to keep going.
